Quick question for the group! 😊 For those of you who’ve landed full‑time roles in customer marketing or advocacy in the post-pandemic years, how many of those opportunities were never posted on job boards? 🤔 I’m trying to get a clearer sense of how much of our job market exists in the “hidden” or referral‑driven space, especially for mid‑level roles. Would love to hear what others have experienced in their searches and hires! 🌟
I landed a new job in November 2025. My job search was entirely based on public postings, as I’m not very active on LinkedIn and didn’t have a large network to tap into. I asked a few friends/ex-co-workers to let me know if they hear of any roles but that didn't net anything.
Mine was slated to be an external hire but I ended up being moved laterally into it. There had been ongoing conversation with my previous leadership around my role and trajectory so this conversation happened with customer advocacy leadership in the background.
I was a product marketer at my company. Saw that we weren't doing a good job of communicating with our end users and pitched the customer marketing role. We had someone with that title previously, but they were pretty junior and just sending emails on behalf of the eng team. But now that I'm here (director level) and the company is paying more attention I have gotten headcount for the folks I need.
My first CMA role was posted on LinkedIn, but my current one was entirely referral based!
