For those who capture customer testimonial videos remotely: What are the pros and cons of guided video capture (me asking the questions live, asking the customer to say it one more time, etc.) vs. the customer capturing their own video with prompts? Is it hard to get customers to stop and do this on their own? If I'm creating a written version at the same time, then one call to knock out both seems best.
Hey Casey! From my experience, the plus of guided video capture are: 1) it’s a great relationship building experience, and can be a great jumping off point for subsequent engagement and collaboration 2) Getting the customer comfortable will often lead to better quality output at the end 3) allows for asking some organic follow-on questions that were not part of your interview guide can yield some really juicy quotes and content Hope that is helpful, but happy to chat further if you’d find that helpful! Thanks and talk soon.
Thanks for the thoughtful reply, Evan Jacobs! That was my hunch - that being involved yields a better output and experience for all.
We are just starting to get into remote video capture but I think you need to start with the need and purpose. If you want a longer video or need to ask some specific questions or really need a specific sound bite, guided is definitely helpful. If you have more standard questions, I think self recorded can work fine. We are just getting started with Vocal Video which I have high hopes for.
Thanks, Christine Newman! That makes sense. I'd love to hear your experience with VV once you've used it a bit.
