Strategies for Engaging Sales & CS in Customer Marketing Efforts
quick question for the group: How are y’all getting Sales and CS (AEs, GADs, CSMs) to support customer marketing asks, especially the heavier lifts like case studies, event speakers, or video testimonials? At my last role, we used UserEvidence and had a robust list of hand-raisers. At Demandbase, we have SlapFive, but the CMM left shortly after it was purchased, so it’s not fully stood up yet. It is synced with Salesforce, but the data in SlapFive is outdated and incomplete. So, for things like sourcing speakers for User Groups, I’ve been reaching out to Sales/CS folks… and mostly getting radio silence. Here’s the twist: I’m new, I’m a contractor, and I get the feeling a lot of people are like “Who TF is this?” 😂 I don’t want to overstep or CC managers unnecessarily, but I also don’t want to sit around waiting on favors. I’ve peeked at Salesforce and ChurnZero to avoid churn risks and bad timing, but I haven’t gone directly to customers yet out of respect. That said, begging for support and asking permission are not my ministry. 🙃 How do y’all handle this? Any tips on:
Making these asks land (especially when you’re new or external)
Getting sales/CS buy-in without forcing it
Navigating org politics while still getting your damn work done
Would love to hear your war stories, templates, or even “don’t do what I did” moments. I’m trying to build trust and momentum without burning bridges.
